A REVIEW OF THE APPLE TEACHER IMOVIE BADGE
In my post, "Apple Teacher - iPad" I reviewed the Apple Teacher Learning Center's iPad badge. The badge program allows users to learn about various iPad features and apps. I recently earned the iMovie for iPad badge. The badge program provides an iBook manual with instructions for using the app. In general, the iMovie iPad app can be used to make movies and trailers. Just imagine all of the creative ways it could be used for the classroom! I learned to use iMovie on a MacBook in middle school and have made many cringeworthy movie spoofs since. I haven't worked with iMovie recently, though, and have never used the iPad app. Reading the iMovie manual was quite helpful. I learned how to overlay videos, something I have never done before with iMovie. The overlay feature allows two videos to be visible at the same time, side by side. Instructions for this feature can be found on page 27 of the manual. My favorite part of the iMovie manual is the several ideas it offers for specific teaching fields. Page 42 is entitled, "Ideas and Inspiration." On this page, the manual suggests math teachers use iMovie to record themselves teaching a math lesson. Students could use this video to review a topic before a test. The "Ideas and Inspiration" page also has suggestions for science, literacy, history, and assessment. Students could also use iMovie to make their own videos. They could each be assigned a specific topic from a chapter to explain in a creative way. A thorough explanation of this topic would prove that they understand it. Another fun way to use iMovie might involve students writing new, topic-related lyrics for a song. They could then create a parody music video and present it to the rest of the class. These are just several ways to utilize iMovie for learning purposes. The possibilities for using iMovie in the classroom really are endless. To learn about iMovie and its many wonderful features, check out the Apple Teacher Learning Center and earn the iMovie badge! |
